Moooooove over WordCamp Milwaukee 2014, Here Comes WDS!

wcmke2This year for WordCamp Milwaukee, it is being held from Thursday, July 24th until Sunday, July 27th. It is taking place at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education. On Thursday July 24th, there is going to be a Meetup at 7:00 PM taking place at C2 Graphics. There is going to be pizza and refreshments, along with awesome discussions about everyone’s favorite topic, WordPress!

WDS is a big part of WordCamp Milwaukee this time around. Not only do we have an organizer on the team, but we are sponsoring the event and we have six WDS employees attending — four of which will be presenting to you! If you’re attending the event, you will more than likely run into Lisa Sabin-Wilson, Brad Parbs, Greg Rickaby, Stacy Kvernmo, Sarah Pressler, and Melissa Hoppe.

First up to bat is Brad Parbs, who will be speaking on Friday, July 25th during the Foundation Friday Workshops. You’ll be able to catch him twice! His first talk is at 11:00 AM in the Theme Design and Development Workshop talking about Template Hierarchy , and the second time you’ll be able to see him is at 2:00 PM in the Plugin Development Workshop talking about Security for your Plugins. Brad is also a co-organizer of WordCamp Milwaukee, along with Dustin FilippiniMike Zielonka, Scott Offord, and Marc Benzakein.

Lisa Sabin-Wilson is also presenting on Saturday, July 26th at 9:30 AM but she will be speaking in the Holstein room. The title of her talk is Check & Double Check: Internal QA is vital, and here is a short description —

Before our team can say that a project is complete … before we even hand the project over to the client and say “”We’re done!”” – we have put it through the paces of an internal QA process that checks and double checks the site to make sure that we’ve met the client’s requirements.

In this session, I share some easy methods that you can start doing with your projects today to improve overall client satisfaction and try and eliminate that dreaded list of things that just ‘aren’t quite right’ on a project you thought was done.

Next up is Greg Rickaby, who will be speaking on Sunday, July 27th at 10:30 AM in the Holstein room.  He will be talking to you about Sass Basics. A short description of his talk —

A high level, introduction to WordPress theming with Sass. Greg will cover basics such as: Variables/Mixins/Nesting/Inheritance/Compilers and file structure.

You will also be able to see Stacy Kvernmo on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Brown Swiss room. She will be talking to you about Exploring the Design Process. Here is a short description of her talk —

With the popularity of responsive design, it seems like the process and tools that have been used in the past are certainly not ideal for the present. So what is the best solution?

Lets explore the available options and discuss how we communicate with our client as well as our developers in this ever changing world of web design.

Melissa Hoppe and Sarah Pressler won’t be speaking at this event, but will be attending presentations to learn as much as they possibly can in one weekend.

There will be an after party held on Saturday after WordCamp at Miller Time Pub. WDS team members will be in attendance and will be more than happy to network with fellow WordPress lovers!

As always, the WDS team members are excited to get connected with other people who share their love for WordPress. This is a great opportunity for them to network with all of you and maybe learn some things they haven’t figured out yet. If you see any members of the team, stop and say hello! We’re a friendly bunch, and loving trading WordPress tricks and secrets!
