The New Media Expo (NMX!) 2015 Las Vegas is coming up with a quickness! This year, the event will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 13th – April 16th, 2015.
We are stoked to say that WebDevStudios will have a booth at the event and our killer CTO, Brian Messenlehner, will be speaking at the event as well. His session, “WordPress the Web OS. Building Beyond the Blog,” will cover WordPress’ capabilities beyond what the average person may know, its infinite extendibility as a CMS, and how flexible and complex it can be, allowing it to suit a wide variety of needs. His presentation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 11:30 AM in Pavilion 11.
Dre Armeda, Shayne Sanderson, and Scott Bolinger will all be in attendance as well, so don’t hesitate to say hello–even if it means waving from across the crowded room and yelling, “I KNOW YOU!” (Okay, well, maybe actually stop by and say hi and pick up a discount code for Maintainn while you’re at it!)
Bloggers, podcasters, and web TV content creators come together at NMX to expand their base knowledge on content creation, monetization, and distribution of their work, as well as network with some of the biggest media creators in the world. According to a recent press release, the event hosts 98,000 attendees from 150 countries, as well as 1,600+ exhibitors and has sponsored support from big brands like WordPress (hey, we know them!).
This has been mentioned nearly ad nauseum at this point, but yes, WordPress is powering almost a quarter of the world’s websites, and as WordPress fans and experts, we couldn’t be more excited to continue evangelizing WP’s versatility and functionality at such a massive event.
While normally we use these event posts as an opportunity to highlight specific sessions at events that caught our eye, we wanted to give this one another twist: Since WordPress is such a major player, it’s not surprising that some of the very accomplished and noteworthy speakers are already running their sites on WordPress. Despite knowing this, I was still incredibly surprised to discover just how many of these incredible media moguls are running their sites on WordPress.
Here are a few people that we hope to run into at NMX Las Vegas 2015 who have already jumped on the WordPress party bus:
Adam Carolla
Nothing short of a celebrity, you may know comedian and radio personality Adam Carolla from his work on Loveline and The Man Show. Most recently, he can be found on The Adam Carolla Show, a talk show that is currently distributed as a podcast and is listed in the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records as the “most downloaded podcast of all time”. Mr. Carolla’s session isn’t currently detailed on the NMX site, but we can’t help but be a little starstruck at the opportunity to see what he has to say. And yes, the site for The Adam Carolla Show, is, in fact, on WordPress!
Ben Greenfield
If you’re a fitness buff, you may already be familiar with Ben Greenfield, author of the New York Times bestseller Beyond Training: Mastering Endurance, Health and Life, former bodybuilder, triathlete, coach, and speaker. His session, “From Gym Rat To Global Fitness Expert – How I Built A Massive Fan Base And How You Can Too,” will discuss how Ben went from a marketing novice to building an empire, along with tips on consistently creating engaging content and how to establish yourself as a reliable resource that draws a massive fanbase. His website, Greenfield Fitness Systems, is a WordPress site too.
Pamela Muldoon
Pamela Muldoon may not be a name you’re familiar with, but you certainly should be if you’re interested in developing your content marketing (or podcasting!) skills. Pamela is the Podcast Network Director for the Content Marketing Institute (CMI) Podcast Network and consultant at Audio Content Solutions, and her session, “Podcasting Systems: The (Unsexy) Necessary Factor For Success,” will cover the behind the scenes work necessary for creating a high-quality, professional podcast. Both her personal site and the website for the Content Marketing Institute are WordPress sites.
Robert Martin
Robert Martin is the Director of the Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College (whose website is–yep, you guessed it–on WordPress). The Isaacson School for New Media is a creative program that offers an education on digital media, graphic design, and professional photography, with a focus on teaching students to approach media storytelling in critical and innovative ways. The details of his session aren’t specified, but we imagine it will be informed by his extensive knowledge on the subject of digital storytelling (and his perspective is one that this content creating obsessive is super excited to hear more about!).
Katja Presnal
Katja Presnal is a writer who has been featured in major publications like Vanity Fair, Forbes, the New York Times, as well as the founder, owner, and editor-in-chief of Skimbaco Lifestyle Magazine, a publication (and WordPress site!) that covers how to life a luxurious, healthy life while on a budget. In addition to her work with online publishing, Katja is an award winning social media strategist, and her session, “Power of Communities in Blogging,” will cover why building a community should be integral to a successful marketing strategy–and how to do so successfully.
Emily Morse
If you’ve heard of Sex With Emily, then you’ll already know of Emily Morse, sex expert and Bravo TV star of Miss Advised, who has made waves with her incredible podcast that covers everything sexuality related. She is a well-known name in the sex and relationships community, and has used her educational background in human sexuality and psychology helping folks have the kind of sex that they should be having–healthy and fun! Prior to becoming a sexologist, she worked in politics, and while her session information isn’t listed on the site, we are definitely excited to learn more about that transition and her success thereafter.
Michael Kintner
Michael Kintner is the CEO of 360Heros, Inc., a company that creates portable and lightweight 360° VR camera solutions. They have a wide range of products built to document any and all of the action you could possibly imagine, and there are various demo videos across their website. Michael (and several other virtual reality pioneers) will be on the “Why Content Creators Should Care About Virtual Reality” panel, which will cover moving beyond the typical web series into producing a project in virtual reality–where to start, what you need, and all the basics on moving on to your first VR project.
This is merely a sampling of the speakers who are, as you can see, covering a wide variety of approaches to media production and distribution. Their experiences span a ton of industries, and it’s astonishing to see how many are already on WordPress. I talked about this when we covered Lisa’s attendance at the Design Blogger Conference, and it’s absolutely relevant here, too: the WordPress community is bigger than the obvious WP nerds that we know and love. This world is growing, and that is a remarkable thing to be a part of (and be party to).
If you’re going to be at NMX 2015, you be sure to grab one of our team for a hello! Whether you have questions about WordPress for your own tinkering, general questions about the WordPress community, or, of course, if you just want to know more about us, we’d be happy to chat.
