The WordPress community is a large and vibrant group of people who use, develop, and support the WordPress platform. Being an active part of the WordPress community means being involved with the growth and success of WordPress.
How to Be an Active Member of the WordPress Community
There are many ways to be an active member of the WordPress community. Some common ways include:
- Attending WordPress Events: There are WordPress events held all over the world, where users can meet other WordPress enthusiasts, learn about new features and developments, and network with potential collaborators. Right now, as we publish this blog post, a multitude of WordPress community members are gathered in National Harbor, Maryland, for WordCamp US. Go to Central.WordCamp to find an event near you.
- Writing About WordPress: There are many opportunities to write about WordPress, whether it’s for a blog, digital magazine, or book. This is a great way to share your knowledge and expertise with others and help to grow the WordPress community. One of our favorite resources is WP Tavern.
- Giving Back Through Five for the Future: Five for the Future (5FTF) is an initiative that Matt Mullenweg started in 2014. Its intention is to encourage WordPress companies like WebDevStudios, as well as independent developers, to donate 5% of company time toward the development of WordPress.
How to Contribute to Five for the Future
At first, 5FTF did seem very developer-oriented. Over the course of the years, the intention has evolved to include other forms of contribution, such as:
- Participating in Online Forums and Communities: There are many online forums and communities where WordPress users can come together to ask questions, share tips, and collaborate on projects. You can be the person to offer another WordPress community member the solution they seek!
- Contributing to WordPress Core or Plugins: WordPress is an open-source project, which means that anyone can contribute to its development. This can be done by fixing bugs, adding new features, or translating the software into other languages. Contributing to the WordPress core or plugin development seems to be one of the most popular ways to participate in 5FTF.
By being an active member of the WordPress community, you can contribute to the evolution of WordPress. You can also learn from others, make new friends, and have fun. We plan on doing just that tomorrow, Friday, August 25th.
