Company News – September

The excitement never seems to cease in our virtual hallways. As we enter the middle of September, WebDevStudios (WDS) has so much to tell you about, including upcoming events, a new employee, and a special offer on WordPress support that is about to expire (gasp!). Check out the latest WDS company news.

Free WordPress Support

It’s always a hot ticket. Every time the WordPress maintenance and support division of WDS, Maintainn, offers a special deal on WordPress support hours, it inevitably sells like hotcakes. This month’s Labor of Love limited-time promotion is no exception.

For every five hours of WordPress support that you purchase, you will get one WordPress support hour free (maximum four free hours). Hurry. This offer expires Friday, September 18, 2020. That’s tomorrow. Yikes! For all the details on this promotion, visit Maintainn’s blog.

Events

Well, just call us the social butterflies of the WordPress world, because we have a pretty full calendar. Take a look at the events where you’ll find WebDevStudios.

WordCamp Philly

We announced last month that both Maintainn and WebDevStudios are proud to be Bronze Sponsors of WordCamp Philly, which takes place virtually on September 26, 2020. In addition to our participation as sponsors, CEO, Brad Williams, will be acting as guest chef for a special lunchtime event, “Nexcess, News, and Cheesesteaks,” which takes place during the lunch break at WordCamp Philly. Who better to teach you how to make authentic cheesesteaks than the guy known as the Cheesesteak Dad?

If that’s not enough WordCamp Philly fun, as a Bronze Sponsor, Maintainn is offering promotional discounts on maintenance and hosting for WordCamp attendees only, while WDS has arranged for a WordPress Help Desk event that takes place virtually on September 30th, exclusively for WordCamp Philly attendees. Other sponsors are also offering an extravaganza of digital swag for those going to WordCamp Philly, but you have to attend to take advantage of it. Tickets to WordCamp Philly are free and still available. Get yours now.

WordPress Accessibility Day

Christina Workman, Support Technician

The first-ever WordPress Accessibility Day is happening October 2, 2020. This 24-hour event is focused on WordPress and accessibility. Web accessibility is an important topic, and if you’re interested in learning about the future of accessibility in WordPress, you definitely want to attend.

Our own Support Technician, Christina Workman, has been announced as a featured speaker. Her talk is titled, “Accessible Websites Benefit Everyone,” and she’ll be covering how making choices to improve accessibility of your WordPress website enhances the overall user experience for everyone because disabilities can be temporary or situational, as well as permanent. Christina’s session will also help you understand why ensuring your website meets accessibility guidelines is a boon for all users by providing examples that are easy to relate to.

WDS Virtual Camp

Held annually, WDS Camp is our company retreat designed to bring together our 100% distributed company. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, our in-person meetup had to be canceled, but we found a way to hold the event virtually!

WDS Virtual Camp takes place October 1-2, 2020. Please note that our offices, including Maintainn and Pluginize, will be closed for the event.

According to our Employee Experience Coordinator, Julie Sarnik, the hurdles of planning such an event were overcome thanks to the WDS leadership team who organized the schedule of events, which includes yoga in the mornings, a virtual trivia event, Zoom rooms, and even swag bags that will be mailed to our team members prior to WDS Virtual Camp.

“Even though it’s virtual and we still have to be in front of our computers instead of in person with each other, we are hoping that the breakout sessions will provide some collaboration and facilitate conversations about the direction we are going from both the leadership’s perspective and from each team member’s perspective,” Julie explains how the retreat will operate. “It’s a nice break to celebrate all the work that’s been accomplished over the last year and recharge, especially in a year that’s been full of firsts for everyone.”

New Employee

Autry Reeves, Assistant Project Manager

Another new employee? Yes! We just introduced you to our newest Project Manager and Lead Engineers this week, but we already have another new person to tell you about. Meet Autry Reeves, Assistant Project Manager. She just joined our team only weeks ago. Autry acts as a bridge of contact between the client and project teams, keeping all parties informed and doing her best to keep projects organized and on track. She loves making lists and seeing projects from start to finish.
