Celebrating 20 Years of WordPress by Giving Back

What better way to celebrate WordPress’ 20-year anniversary than by contributing to the platform via Five for the Future (5FTF)? That’s what WebDevStudios is doing tomorrow, May 26th. We are dedicating the entire workday to giving back to WordPress.

Why Five for the Future

We know WordPress wouldn’t have achieved what it has achieved in the past 20 years if it wasn’t for the contributions of the members of the WordPress community. We can’t help but be grateful because we’re also celebrating a milestone. It’s the 15-year anniversary of WebDevStudios (WDS).

WDS is excited to celebrate both events by hosting 5FTF tomorrow. Our team enjoys taking a break from client work to contribute to the WordPress core, plugin development, and WordCamps. That’s why we do it every last Friday of the month.

April 5FTF

Here are some examples of how we gave back to WordPress last month. If you find it fun to see how we participate in 5FTF, be sure to follow us and the hashtag #5FTF on Twitter. We love to tweet our contributions.

#5FTF Tweets

Sometimes a team member has to delay their 5FTF day due to client work. That happened to Lead Engineer David Walz. He just took his 5FTF day on May 5th.

5FTF Slack Channel

We keep an active 5FTF Slack channel where we report our plans for the day. This serves well for WDS teammates who aren’t on Twitter but also allows for calls for collaboration. Some 5FTF projects require a second pair of eyes, feedback, or a development partner. Here is a sample of some of the activities that took place on that channel last month.

Your Chance to Give Back

Anyone can participate in the WordPress initiative Five for the Future. That means you, too. Visit the official 5FTF webpage at WordPress.org to learn more.
