WebDevStudios loves to help people, and this holiday season brought on a great new tradition of helping others for the entire team. In late November our awesome project managers Cristina Cannon and Jaimie Olmstead came up with the brilliant idea of a Holiday Charity Competition between the three teams that make up WebDevStudios—The A-Team, The Scream Team, and Team Maintainn.
The stage was set. With 20 days of competition, each team picked a charity that they could get behind along with a total donation goal they wished to reach. The first annual WDS holiday charity competition was off and running!
The A-Team picked Freedom Projectz, which is a charity focused on Ugandan youth. It’s devoted to empowering orphaned students to become leaders in their country through higher education, vocational training, and community service. They had an end goal of $2,001 and at the end of the competition, they ended up raising $2,246!
The Scream Team picked CodeStarter which is an awesome non-profit that uses donations to give free computers to children enrolled in programming classes with one of their partner organizations. For every $250 raised, Codestarter purchases a computer and pre-loads it with the software needed to get to work. Scream Team had an end goal of $2,000 and at the end of the competition, they ended up raising $2,375!
Team Maintainn picked the Electronics Frontier Foundation which is the leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties relating to matters of computer science, and the Internet at-large. Team Maintainn had an end goal of $1,000 and at the end of the competition, they raised $616!
The End Result
When the competition ended at 12PM EST on Christmas Eve, we’re proud to announce that the three teams as a whole raised a total of $5,237.
But.. We weren’t done yet. Brad Williams, Brian Messenlehner, Lisa Sabin-Wilson, and Dre Armeda decided to step it up a notch. After all the tallies were in they made the generous decision to donate an additional $1,000 to each charity!
When all was said in done, the WDS holiday charity competition brought a grand total of $8, 237 in donations to these great causes!
Thank You
As much as we enjoyed the friendly competition, this was all about the charities. We would like to thank everyone who helped us reach our goals, and we’re proud that we’ve helped provide for these organizations. Until next year!
Happy New Year to you and yours, from the WebDevStudios team!
