The Ventura County Lodging Association sought a modern, user-friendly website to better engage potential travelers, showcase lodging options, and promote local attractions. Interactive Header Map
To enhance the visitor experience, we improved the Header Map, making it more functional and intuitive. The original map was designed for desktop users, but mobile visitors struggled to navigate it effectively. To address this, we created a mobile-specific version that displays Ventura County’s key regions in an easy-to-read list format instead of the SVG map. This change ensures that visitors can quickly find and explore different areas, whether they’re looking for coastal attractions, dining options, or lodging.
One specific enhancement was the adjustment of the Channel Islands display, which was previously difficult to visualize within the constraints of the header map. By resizing the SVG and optimizing the region layout, we ensured that the Channel Islands were accurately represented without cluttering the overall design. These refinements resulted in a much cleaner, more user-friendly experience, making it easier for travelers to get a geographic overview of the region at a glance.
Find Your Vibe
One of the primary goals of the Ventura County Coast website is to make travel planning as seamless as possible. To streamline the booking experience, we added a Phone Number field to the Booking Info button, allowing users to contact hotels directly with a single tap. This small but significant update improves conversion rates, especially for mobile users who prefer quick, direct interactions.
Additionally, we refined the “Find Your Vibe” section on the homepage, a feature designed to personalize travel recommendations based on user preferences. We added an extra button to encourage deeper exploration of Ventura County’s offerings, whether users are seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural experiences. These adjustments contribute to a more intuitive and engaging navigation experience, making it easier for visitors to discover the perfect getaway.
Dynamic Call-to-Action Blocks
Call-to-Action (CTA) blocks are a crucial element of Ventura County Coast’s marketing strategy, guiding visitors toward hotel bookings, travel guides, and curated experiences. To enhance engagement, we implemented default background imagery for CTAs when no custom image is uploaded. Instead of leaving blank spaces, the website now automatically displays an iconic image of a Ventura County surfer, ensuring a consistently branded and visually appealing experience. This not only improves aesthetics but also provides a seamless fallback for the marketing team, reducing the need for constant manual updates.
Additionally, we improved the integration of CTA blocks within blog and persona templates. This ensures that visitors naturally encounter relevant promotions or suggested content while reading articles or exploring destination guides. By embedding CTAs in these strategic locations, we increased conversion opportunities, encouraging users to take action—whether it’s booking a hotel, exploring local events, or signing up for a newsletter.


50/50 Quote Design & Staggered Layout
The 50/50 block design is a key storytelling element throughout the Ventura County Coast website, blending text and imagery to highlight unique experiences. On desktop, these blocks previously stacked in a repetitive, predictable format. To create better visual flow, we introduced a staggered layout, allowing text and images to alternate. This enhancement breaks the monotony and provides a more dynamic, engaging reading experience. The improved structure also aligns better with modern web design trends, keeping users visually engaged as they scroll.
On mobile, the design needed to adapt to space constraints while maintaining clarity. Instead of forcing a uniform structure, we optimized the text and image stacking sequence, ensuring a balanced layout that alternates content for better readability. This refinement prevents long blocks of text from appearing without images, maintaining engagement on smaller screens. The result is a cohesive, high-quality experience across all devices, making travel inspiration content more compelling.
