She’s back at it again! After having presented a talk at WordCamp Hamilton, Technical Project Manager, Meagan Hanes, will also speak at WordCamp Ottawa, July 13-14, 2019. Her talk is titled, “Update Smart: Using a Staging Site!” and she will go over the importance of performing updates on a staging site. Doing so allows you to test the updates and resolve any issues before pushing them live to a production site.
“As Ottawa is my home city, WordCamp Ottawa is my local WordCamp,” Meagan explains her desire to speak at the WordPress conference. “I’ve been deeply involved in its planning and operation since the beginning, and have resumed the role of Co-Lead Organizer for 2019’s event.”
Meagan says that she is looking forward to seeing friends from all around and meeting new ones. “We have a jam-packed schedule of talks and speakers from across Canada and the USA, and it looks like the weather will be perfect again this year,” she states. “I’m also looking forward to spending some time with friends on the patio overlooking the Rideau River. Carleton University’s campus is absolutely spectacular in the summer. I might just bring my ukelele!”
Meagan has a passion for empowering others with knowledge and information. During WebDevStudios’ Five for the Future days, very often she donates her workday to mentoring others who desire to learn more about organizing a WordCamp or those who wish to speak at one.
“As Seneca said, ‘While we teach, we learn.'” quotes Meagan. “Presenting at WordCamps allows you to hone your expertise, equips you with professional speaking skills, and allows you to pass on what you’ve learned to others. WordPress is open-source in so many ways—democratizing education and sharing valuable knowledge at affordable WordCamps are examples.”
