A short month won’t deter WebDevStudios (WDS) from dedicating the last Friday of February to Five for the Future. All a short month does is make the opportunity to contribute to WordPress happen sooner, and because WDS loves to participate, we’re that much more grateful for it. Get ready, folks. Tomorrow, February 26th, WDS is dedicating the entire workday to giving back to WordPress and the community via the Five for the Future (#5FTF) initiative.
What does it mean when we say we’re dedicating a day to #5FTF? Well, WDS gives our team the day off from client projects so the workday can be used to focus on:
- Contributing to the WordPress core
- Developing free plugins
- Creating helpful WordPress content
- Transcribing WordCamp talks
- Continuing the development of our Next.js WordPress Starter
- Donating time and talent toward a virtual WordCamp, conference, or seminar
- Anything that helps make WordPress better
What’s really cool is when others from outside of WDS recognize our contributions.
So great to see how companies like @webdevstudios participate in #WordPress’ #FiveForTheFuture, thanks to @LisaSabinWilson @williamsba for sharing how they give back with examples for how others can contribute as well! #5FTF https://t.co/wJk39j3whu

WDS Five for the Future days happen the last Friday of every month. Sometimes, due to client work, some teammates have to delay their #5FTF day until the following week, but they all enjoy participating and tweeting about it. You can always follow @webdevstudios on Twitter to see how we’re giving back, or keep up with the hashtag #5FTF. Here’s a sampling of how our team contributed to Five for the Future last month, January 29th.

It wouldn’t be a successful #5FTF without some JavaScript goodness @webdevstudios. I launched a huge update on my Gatsby site and it’s officially a public repo 🥳. Time for Gutenberg blocks!

for #5ftf at @webdevstudios i’m *finally* working on a utility for backing up podcasts for posterity. to add to it, i’m going to be blogging my entire way through the process – all the weird thoughts and unpolished things that go into something like this..

Another #5ftf today @webdevstudios! Looking forward to diving in and rebuilding an old @gravityforms Add-On that hasn’t worked in a while 😬

I’m all out of our infamous WDS 🌮s for the day, so shout out to @mikelikethebike for helping me create some reusable components that I can reference in multiple WP editor blocks ♻️Big-ups to @webdevstudios for the #5ftf time ❤️ pic.twitter.com/HWftMZigvX

Late to #5FTF @webdevstudios but still killing it 😸 How can I not when I have baby Mayushii as my workmate today and she thinks I’m the bee’s knees. I’m starting a new animated menu plugin, hopefully I get a lot done by EoD. pic.twitter.com/ab3VkFL7BU

🔥Today is #5FTF @webdevstudios for me and a couple other teammates. Today I’m spending time helping out in the WordPress support forums. Hoping to work on my Related Posts Gutenberg Block (WIP) a bit too.
