Features You Need for Education on the Web
Class Schedules & Event Calendars
Creating and sharing class schedules can be a very helpful feature for your students. Multiple calendars can be maintained, from class schedules to robust event calendars for your school district or campus.
Advanced Media Galleries
Image and media galleries are a great way to display your school’s spirit. Your WordPress website can feature advanced galleries supporting all types of media including images and videos.
An interactive school or campus map is a great way to help your students and visitors navigate your facilities. Using powerful services like Google Maps, we can create a fun and informative experience for your visitors.
Integration of a robust document management system is built in, allowing your teachers, faculty, staff, and students organize and host thousands of images, videos, PDFs, Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, and more.
Unique Profile Pages
Profile pages for teachers and students provide a community look and feel. Profile pages can keep track of classes, assignments, school news, and more.
Multiple Sites for Networks
Your school has multiple locations and districts. Our solution builds a network for each location and integrates consistent features and branding across all of them—with one single installation.
We ensure that your WordPress website is fully integrated with your existing user and student accounts.
Integrating WordPress user accounts with your single sign-on service (SSO) can be an important requirement for any school website. From Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), we’ve integrated SSO in WordPress using many different user authentication systems. You can also use the student and/or faculty email address as an authentication point (for example, the user can log in only with a ‘schoolname.edu’ email address).
A calendar of events is a great feature for administrators, students, and parents to be informed on upcoming activities at your school. WordPress has many options available for powerful, and flexible, calendar and scheduling systems. Calendars can also be configured to aggregate multiple calendar events into a single calendar for an easy to use all-in-one school event calendar.
Higher Education Case Study: Wharton University
Knowledge@Wharton is the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania’s online business analysis publication that covers everything from business trends, spotlights on industry leaders, and other related business news.
This was a particularly unique challenge for WebDevStudios; Knowledge@Wharton has both a global edition, as well as several regional editions in various different languages, which required a complex multisite migration that included several multi-lingual subsites (Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese), as well as migrating over half a million users.
Additionally, we custom designed the unique magazine style theme to properly represent the Business Journal feel they were looking to achieve.
Easy to Use
With WordPress, all of your content publishing and editing is done within an easy-to-use Dashboard. WordPress provides the ability for news and resources page creation, searchable faculty, student, and class directories, admissions criteria and applications, class and program catalogs and schedules, and even a learning management system with features, such as curriculum management, online homework, quizzes, grading, and more. More than a platform for blogging, WordPress is the platform of choice for schools, K-12, universities, teachers, faculty, admissions, and more.
WebDevStudios provides one-on-one preparation for you and your team. We also provide your team with a library of video tutorials on how to use WordPress to manage content and help guide your team on how to best leverage the tools it has to offer.
K-12 School Case Study: Newark Public Schools
The Newark School District, established in 1676, is one of the oldest school districts in New Jersey. It is also one of the largest, with sixty-six schools, over 5,000 employees, and over 35,000 students.
This project was an exciting challenge for WebDevStudios! We migrated almost eighty sites from a proprietary solution (Schoolwires) into a WordPress Multisite network. Now, Newark Public School District administrators and staff can update and maintain the entire network of websites from one easy-to-manage platform.
WebDevStudios created a custom mobile app using AppPresser that allows both students and parents to receive push notifications directly from the school, ensuring that whether the alert is regarding fun district-wide events or student health and safety, they’ll be instantly in the know. We also implemented a calendar solution with custom features for showing district registered events across all school websites, making it easy for administrators to update and for families to peruse. Lastly, we created a sleek, new, responsive design that looks great on any desktop browser or mobile device.
In 2014, when Newark Public Schools moved their district sites to WordPress, they were able to redirect their budget away from an expensive, proprietary vendor and embraced the publishing power of the WordPress platform. They saved over $200K in doing so.

OUR CLIENTS SAY THE NICEST THINGS
With the world switching to viewing websites on mobile devices, I knew I needed an updated and responsive website, but I was hesitant on getting a new website designed. I thought the process would be confusing and difficult for someone like me who doesn’t have a background in design or coding. Thankfully the WebDevStudios team made the process very easy. Kevin McClelland /The Sports Geek
Thank you to your team for such excellent work. This project was our first project together, but it felt like we were already long time partners. What a fun, professional group of people you have over there. Mark Junkunc /Uber Technologies, Inc.
Lisa, Brad and the entire team at WebDev are friendly, honest, and always bring great solutions to the table. We’ve been really impressed with their development team’s level of professionalism and expertise. They did a great job on building Crime Feed and we’re looking forward to launching more projects with WebDev this year. Jessica Wolfley /Discovery Communications
WebDevStudios grasped our vision and executed on time and on budget. This was a major overhaul, and we hit a few speed bumps, but it was way more smooth of a process opposed to previous relationships with other developers. Everyone we worked with was helpful, friendly, and proactive in communicating with us. They felt like a true partner and not hired help. Ben Koo /The Comeback
From project scoping and management, all the way through development, to knowledge transfer and support, WebDevStudios delivered excellent service! Their team has excellent technical skills and solid communications practices. They never missed a deadline. WDS made our vision to create the INPUT iCenter a reality.
