“I am that odd person who always liked working in group projects growing up. I never knew why; I just knew I liked them,” Deborah describes her interest in project management. She says what she loves about project management is organizing and facilitating the various strengths and abilities a team has and then managing those skills to create an environment where they thrive. “I believe when people feel seen, they work out of a place of passion and not obligation,” she explains.

When she saw that there was an open project management role at WDS, she first researched our company and could tell immediately that we have a unique group of people working here. She says our culture is evident in every piece of content on our website, including the way the application is worded. “I knew this would be a fun place to work that would also challenge me to grow. That is what I was looking for in a job,” Deb says, adding, “I believe enjoying what you do is so important, but liking who you do it with is equally as important.”

It’s been a few weeks now, and Deborah states that she has no question she made the right call by joining our group. “I’m just really excited to be part of this team,” she says. When Deb isn’t managing projects, one of her favorite past times is discovering hole-in-the-wall restaurants, especially Mexican ones. Having spent several years living in Mexico, she likes befriending the staff at her favorite Mexican eateries, elaborating, “One place I used to go to when visiting my brother, it didn’t take long to get to know the staff and share our stories about where in Mexico we all were from. It got to the point that when I would walk in with my brother, they didn’t even bring us menus but would bring us food from the kitchen that they had made for themselves! That was the best.”

Marisa worked in education for a number of years where she was able to grow from an administrative assistant to assistant director of marketing for a number of large university departments. “I really loved my latest role, but was looking for a more serious entrance into project management,” Marisa describes her last position before coming to WebDevStudios. “It was a big change transitioning from education into web development, as I’ve never worked in a tech-related role before, but I’m learning so much already!”

Marisa’s enthusiasm and eagerness is noticeable. She’s hitting the ground running and fitting right in. “Everyone was so inviting and welcoming during my first month thus far,” Marisa reports, adding, “WDS is made up of such a diverse group of people who bring different backgrounds, skillsets, and experiences to each and every day, and that’s a really exciting place to work.”

Like Deborah, Marisa is a natural-born organizer. She says she likes to spot and solve problems before they happen, something she probably picked up during her days as a stage manager. “I feel like that was my first real experience with project management, organizing schedules, and delivering results within a certain timeline. And, I didn’t even know it!” she exclaims.

Even though Marisa had never worked in the WordPress ecosystem before, she had worked with the open-source technology as a user. She conveys that she has a real appreciate for WordPress’ user-friendly nature, regardless of skill level. When she saw that WDS was hiring for a project manager, the job listing stuck out to her. “I was interested in advancing my knowledge and project management skills in a larger company that would allow me to grow, while having a great amount of support and the ability to work remotely.” It sounds to us like Marisa came to the right place and we just added two top-notch project managers to our team. This is a win-win for all of us.
