As the Digital Strategist, Bret acts as a website consultant and helps bridge the gap between sales and project operations focusing on client needs analysis, requirements gathering, and project planning. He works closely with the Technical Strategist during the strategy and planning phase of a project to make sure project requirements and plans are well-documented and the transition hand-off to project teams is seamless and transparent.
With an affinity for technology and a background in programming, Bret started his own company building websites for local small businesses. This eventually pivoted into custom development for WordPress, which was mostly white label for other agencies. In 2016, he merged that company with a larger digital marketing agency and took on a sales role. That company sold in 2019. Having worked in most roles (developer, sales, project management, accounting, strategy, etc.) gives him a unique perspective and great fit working on the discovery and strategy for the website projects at WebDevStudios.
Bret has been an active member of the WordPress community since his first WordCamp in Savannah, GA in 2010. He’s been a speaker at WordCamps and other events around the country, as well as a co-organizer for WordCamp Atlanta and WordCamp US.
Outside of websites and marketing, Bret produces music, plays several instruments, and has been working as a recording and mixing engineer. He’s released several progressive rock, instrumental math rock, and Christmas albums, while currently working heavily in hip hop. He’s lived a previous lifetime in MMO video games. He also enjoys fitness, sports, and spent a decade teaching swimming lessons. Lastly, he’s openly proclaimed that he likes sci-fi AND fantasy, even if they are in the same film or book.
“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music.”
